Rest of World is a nonprofit publication that challenges expectations about whose experiences with technology matter. We connect the dots across a rapidly evolving digital world, through on-the-ground reporting in places typically overlooked and underestimated.
Starting Point- Rough Concepts
We wanted to keep the artwork steer away from imagery of phones, and focus more on the content, and translation. With the concepts we were able to narrow down on the artwork that video content in the interface of Youtube, without making it look too tech heavy in imagery.
Chosen Direction
Munira(Art director for Rest of World) asked me to go forward with the concept with the interface and content. The illustration is animated, with the hands coming in and translating the abstract video dialogues. We used internet cultural phenonominas like beauty tutorials, Pepe the frog, Pregnant Rihanna at Super-bowl as visual ques to anchor the illustration in the cultural zeitgeist.
